Provider Basics
NAME: Dee Shallcross, APRN, FPA, PMHNP-BC
PROVIDER TYPE: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NPI: 1629736285
STATE LICENSE: Illinois
FULL PRACTICE: I have completed over 3000 hours with a nursing preceptor and 6000 hours under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist. I am now recognized by the state of Illinois as a Full Practice Authority provider and no longer require physician monitoring. Despite this earned privilege, I still meet with a licensed psychiatrist regularly to review complex cases and grow as a prescriber.
TRAINING: I received formal didactic and clinical training through University of Illinois Chicago, Olivet Nazarene University, and University of Cincinnati. I am also a Willian Rainey Harper College graduate.
EXPERIENCE: Over the last 20 years, I've had the privilege of working in various settings, including the ER, a 24-hour crisis department, inpatient psychiatric unit, community mental health center, private practice setting, and a state operated forensic facility.
These experiences have equipped me with a well-rounded perspective on mental health care and helped me develop a comprehensive understanding of the challenges individuals living with mental illness face while navigating the intricacies of the mental health care system.
TEACHING: I've had the honor of teaching nursing students, medical students, psychiatric residents, & nurse practitioner students from University of Illinois Chicago, Rosalind Franklin University, Chamberlain University, and Elgin Community College. Guiding the next generation of mental health clinicians is fulfilling and I take pride in fostering a learning environment that encourages self-reflection, and critical thinking.

GET TO KNOW ME: Family is my anchor and I cherish time with my husband and our growing boys. Parenting has been the most incredible (albeit challenging) journey. Being present with my children and enjoying the time we have together is incredibly important to me. I make a conscious effort to appreciate the experiences of every day and practice gratitude. When I'm not working, you'll find me with my husband & our kiddos, hiking, gardening, swimming, watching the kids play hockey & helping them with reading or homework. I enjoy baking and am making an effort to improve my cooking. Big fan of museums and the beautiful zone 5 nature trails.
We are a proud rescue family with three cats and two very quirky dogs.
